Welcome, Andrej and thanks for sponsoring WordCamp Zagreb as a gold sponsor. Can you tell us more about your company?
Thank you for hosting the interview, it was a pleasure talking to you! 😉
AM2 studio is the largest WP agency in Croatia and surrounding area, counting now more than 35 people. We currently have 5 more positions opened and we are looking to further expand our team. We work on a number of projects ranging from custom themes and WP sites to high-traffic sites and custom plugins for our clients. On top of that, about 35% of our team is working on product development.
We are expanding our ticketing platform ticketZone.com, we are building a platform for Cannabis Delivery with our partner in San Francisco greenRush.com and we have 4 other internal supporting projects such as site builder based on WP customizer, Multisite platform that enables us to create any city-based event site in minutes with content automatically pulled from different sources, a flexible ERP system that automates business processes and helps companies get business intelligence. Quite a lot of fun 🙂
Our team is distributed through 6 countries in the world, our offices are in Vancouver, Buenos Aires, Zagreb and Banja Luka, and the majority of our team works remotely. We work in Flexible Work Environment that doesn’t strictly define working hours or place of work.
You were sponsoring WordCamp Split last year, and this year WordCamp Zagreb. How was in Split? What are you expecting for Zagreb?
Split was amazing, we turned it into a team building experience and brought an entire team there. It was a great experience and a great setting for WordCamp. I expect nothing less from Zagreb this year. I hope Zagreb will have the record attendance among all Croatian WordCamps organized so far, the list of Speakers is respectable and there will be a lot of opportunities to learn and hear interesting talks and to meet interesting people. Happy to be a part of it.
We see that AM2 Studio is constantly searching for new people. How can people get in touch with you?
People can get in touch through our ‘Careers’ section on our website, or reach out through email and social media (Facebook or LinkedIn). We are always in a lookout for great WP developers, right now we are hiring 5 people in various roles (2 JS Engineers / React, Front end developer and 2 WordPress back-end developers).
You mentioned flexible work environment where hours and place of work are not strictly defined. Are you looking to hire remote employees as well?
Absolutely, our team is currently spanning across 15 cities and our entire culture of the company is built around remote work. We tend to build hubs in different cities and expand our offices but we really have no limits from where someone can join the team.
What are the plans for the future?
Who knows what future holds, right? Well, we are investing more and more into our internal suite of products and tools. So far we have financed all our internal work without any external investment, now we are approaching a point where we are considering Series A round and significantly ramping up resources for our projects. 2017 was a year when we took a lot of projects at once and we are rolling them out one by one in Q3 & Q4, 2018 will be about significantly improving our projects and scaling the user base, bringing them all under one central management tool.
We will keep expanding our WordPress department. We have spent a lot of effort in 2017 in optimizing and standardizing our processes and we are ready to bring several additional junior developers on board and work with them to ramp up their knowledge and experience. Exciting times ahead!
What do you think about the Croatian WordPress community?
There is a notable progress in Croatian WordPress community, more people and getting involved every year although I would love to see a faster pace. I think there is a lot more room for improvement and we can all work together to help more people get involved. Compared to other communities throughout the Europe we are still in early stages.
